Earl “The Pearl” Banks
The Legendary Bluesman, Earl “The Pearl” Banks will be honored and given his due this year. In 1936 Earl was born in Germantown, TN at Kirby Farms. Earl’s foundation is built on being a talented singer and songwriter. Earl is quite the perfectionist when it comes to playing.
Earl has played with other legends including BB King, Rufus Thomas, Al Green, Albert King, Seal Johnson, Joe L. Lewis, Etta James, O.V. Wright, Little Johnny Taylor, Cocoa Taylor, and Ted Taylor. Earl Banks will tell you his idol has always been BB King, and he continually tries to play like him. Earl has fantastic music and has written quite a number of songs. Earl ‘’The Pearl’’ Banks has many accomplishments including in 2004 he received Beale Streets ‘Entertainer of The Year’ award. In 2009 Earl received the W.C. Handy ‘Authentic Beale Street Musician’ award.
In 2013 Earl’s name was added to Beale Street’s Brass Note Walk of Fame. Earl ‘’the Pearl’’ Banks has performed at many festivals including in 2018 Memphis In May’s Music Festival and The King Biscuit Blues Festival in Helena , Arkansas. Earl has played at other numerous venues in Memphis including Railgarten, Lafayette’s, The Hard Rock Café, BB Kings, and is a regular at Blues City Café, Murphy’s and Huey’s. Earl is the oldest Bluesman still performing on Beale St. This legend deserves lots of respect!
This year Earl will be playing on several sets with other bands and will have various musicians sitting in with him on his set performing as we honor him on April 13th . Earl ‘’The Pearl’ ’Banks will be available for autographs and pictures next to the I-Heart Radio Stage at various times throughout the day.
