“Rock ‘N’ Roll is from Memphis…and so are we.”
– Chris Ruble, Drummer, The Fast Mothers
The Fast Mothers were founded by Chris and Tracy Ruble, the identical twin sons of the late Tommy Ruble. Tommy was a member of The Cavaliers who were best known for their hit song, “Last Kiss.” He is also the lead vocalist on the official song of Memphis, “One Last Bridge.”
The band began as an outlet for Tracy’s musical creativity. Finding himself for the first time without a guitarist, Tracy taught himself to play rhythm guitar to assist in his songwriting process. Chris, who hadn’t been behind a drum kit since he was eight years old, quickly picked it back up without missing a beat. The pair began writing song after song, and even though they were turning out great material, The Fast Mothers knew they needed additional musicians to enhance and complete their music.
Over the past 10 years The Fast Mothers have had a handful of players come and go, but the current line-up is almost a year strong. Rounded out by a who’s who of Memphis musicians, The Fast Mothers are somewhat of a local “super group.” On lead guitar, from the band Seeing Red, is Wayne Walker. On rhythm guitar is Walter Hughes from The Eric Hughes Band, and on bass, Matt Dees from 714 and Medieval Steel. The Fast Mothers recorded their debut EP with producer Jimmy Fulp at his Broken Snare Studios. The self-titled album is full of grooves and soul and rock ‘n’ roll and is just a hint of what this band is capable of. The Fast Mothers have been promoting and playing live around town since its release and will continue to do so for the remainder of this year and into next year when they will look to record their follow-up.
“The Fast Mothers have recorded what I consider one of the very best albums to come out of Memphis in the past two decades. Soulful, sexy, heartfelt, powerful….you know you’re doing something right whenever someone asks you “who is that?” at a redlight when you have your cd player cranked.”
– Doc Studard, DJ @ Radio Memphis
“The Fast Mothers’ new self-titled CD is nothing short of what you would expect from a band of this caliber. The Fast Mothers are extremely talented and seasoned musicians who never fail to deliver in the studio or on the stage. The raw emotion, the soul, the heart, the intensity, and the flat truth of this music reminds me of why I started Vexar Entertainment in the first place!”
– David “Vexar Dave” Thorn – Vexar Entertainment
